Björn bottle among the winners of the Good Design 2018 competition
A bottle of Björn vodka was one of the winners of the 25th jubilee edition of the Good Design competition. The Institute of Industrial Design rewards the best-designed products and services available on the Polish market. This is the first bottle of strong alcohol in the finals of this competition in the graphics and packaging category.
On October 25th prizes were awarded in the 25th jubilee edition of the Good Design competition in Warsaw. In the “Commercial graphics and packaging” category, the jury selected a black bottle of Björn vodka, which definitely stands out among other products in the spirit industry.
– The jury noted the perfect interplay of the style of the packaging, its matte blackness and deep relief with the qualities of the drink. This perfectly designed bottle truly communicates the value of the product – which is the basic purpose of good graphic design – the jury explained.
The packaging is covered with a characteristic texture made up of letters inspired by the appearance of runes. The packaging also encourages interaction – to read the history of the Viking king you need to turn the bottle several times. The bottle perfectly communicates the unique power of the drink and its masculinity. Thanks to the sevenfold distillation, the alcohol has high quality without any chemical impurities (0 ppm). The vodka is available in two versions, black with 45% alcohol and matt white with 40%.
– The Björn bottle fits perfectly into global trends in design, its design is unique, innovative and modern – says Andrzej Zalewski, Marketing Director of BZK Alco. – It definitely stands out on the store shelf among competing products – he adds. The company’s representatives emphasize the Polish identity of the brand, both in terms of its concept, design, form and capital. The glass packaging was created in Poland, just like the drink contained in the awarded bottle.
– The implementation of the bottle required extreme precision from designers and engineers – says bottle designer Magdalena Jabłońska from Spiritus Movens studio. – Every, even the smallest element of the packaging had to be rethought. The author of the project claims that thanks to active cooperation with the client and the glass producer, it was possible to achieve a very interesting implementation effect, innovative on the Polish market.
From a design point of view, Björn’s bottle was a unique challenge. The shape had to reflect a concept with a strong, simple message and at the same time definitely stand out from the competition. In the deeply engraved surface that surrounds the entire body of the bottle, there must have been, among others, flat spaces for barcode and labels. Every detail was important, including the length of a single word in the text encircling the bottle several times.
The Björn bottle is the first strong alcohol packaging to be included in both the finalists and the winners in the “Commercial Graphics and Packaging” category. Nearly 200 products were submitted in this year’s edition. During the award ceremony, the jury awarded prizes in nine categories: Home, Work, Public Sphere, Services, New Technologies, Commercial Graphics and Packaging, New Production Materials, Transport and Communication, Fashion and Accessories. All awarded projects and those qualified for the finals can be viewed at the post-competition exhibition.
